In addition, there's a stunning duet with Broadway's Douglas Sills and a fun turn with singing sensation Marilyn Maye. Of course, "Stardust" is in the line-up and many others. Recording Has Begun!
Todd has begun recording his second CD, starting off with a duet with the
marvelous Marilyn Maye. Marilyn has been a favorite vocalist of Todd's
for many years. Get her dual CD set (The Marvelous Marilyn Maye)...great
tunes and great vocals.
Todd and Marilyn have recorded a playful version of "Teach Me Tonight" while other tunes slated for the album are a swinging version of "Moonlight Becomes You" (featuring Elizabeth Ward Land, Amy Pietz, and Michelle Duffey of "Could 'Ja" fame), "Stardust", "Dream A Little Dream With Me", a duet with Broadway's Douglas Sills and two Todd originals to name a few. If all goes well, recording, mixing, and pressing should be done by this fall. The album is co-produced with Dennis McCarthy using many of the same hipster musicians as as "When I Sing Low". Stay tuned.
Christmas in Switzerland?
Todd has been asked to participate in a series of tribute concerts in
Zurich honoring Swiss star John Brack. You will recall that Todd and
two other American singers joined John Brack in Switzerland on a tour
singing gospel quartet style music in 2004 and 2005. Sadly John passed
away in 2006. The concerts are slated for the week of December 10 in
and around the greater Zurich area.
Upcoming Concert!
Todd will be performing in an upcoming concert with Douglas Sills and Sally Wilfert on January 29, 2007 in New York City. Click on this link for ticketing information: Concert Ticket Information
Todd's New Standards Album
Due to time constraints, Todd's slated Christmas album has been shelved for the time being. However, planning has begun for another "standards" album featuring well-known gems as well as some new tunes penned by Todd. STAY TUNED!
Todd Making a Documentary
(Updated) Todd is currently filming an exciting documentary about Toni and Rosi Grunschlag. Toni and Rosi are sisters who escaped Nazi-occupied Vienna in 1939. After finding their way to New York City before World War II broke out, they were reunited with their mother and father and have lived in New York City ever since. They were accomplished child pianists in Vienna, and came to have a professional career as dual pianists all over the world, performing piano compositions written for two pianos.
Todd is in the process of filming and interviewing these life-long companions and sisters for a documentary about their harrowing, as well as inspiring, lives. He recently returned from Vienna where the ladies were welcomed back to their home city and where they performed two outdoor concerts for over 10,000 viewers yelling "bravo!" Check back from time to time to monitor the progress of this exciting film.
Sadly, Toni Grunschlag passed away on January 12. 2007. She will be
greatly missed, but her spirit and pure determination to survive some of
the worst of humanity will go on. May Toni's zest for living and thirst
for life be an inspiration to us all.

A Few Words From Margaret Whiting
Recently, Margaret Whiting, the First Lady of American popular music and Capitol Records recording star, had this to say:
His sound is from another era that is thankfully with us again. And as he wraps that sound around a song lyric, the audience quickly becomes aware that this is a man who means every word that he says. He is so ingratiating on the floor, I was convinced I had known him for years. In short, I feel good when I spend an evening with him.” - Margaret Whiting __________________________________
Todd Murray Named Hottest New Cabaret Singer of 2003
__________________________________ Valley Scene Magazine "If it's even more romantic you're into, Todd Murray's smooth baritone is bound to entrance. Compared to Dean Martin, Murray may just very well be the male Diana Krall. So very, very s.m.o.o.t.h! Cole Porter's 'Don't Fence Me In' and John Bucchino's 'If I Ever Say I'm Over You' are just two of the many satisfying arrangements." - Don Grigware __________________________________ Los Angeles Cabaret Newsletter I hope you were one of the lucky ones who got to see Todd at Feinstein's last Monday. He has to be the best male cabaret performer in the business. If you did miss his show, I very highly recommend his CD, "When I Sing Low", you will love it. It's no wonder Talkin' Broadway named it one of their Top 10 for 2002. - Les Michaels __________________________________
A Few Words From Frank Wildhorn
Recently, Broadway great, Frank Wildhorn, had this to say:
"Echoing some of the great song stylists of the past, Todd Murray
brings passion, style and grace to everything he sings."

Some Enchanted Evening
Bistro Bits, BackStage Magazine, April 04, 2003 By John Hogland
Todd Murray is another theatre performer with an impressive list of credits who is new to cabaret. In his recent series of shows, "Romance in a Different Key," with brilliant musical director Christopher Denny at Danny's Skylight Room, the handsome bass-baritone brought romance and gorgeous readings to songs mostly from the American songbook, all of which are reflected on his exceptional album, "When I Sing Low." In well-phrased, resonant tones, he showed a deep commitment to the lyrics and a love of the genre.
Like such singers from the past as Dick Haymes and Matt Monroe, Murray is a silky crooner from the dreamy school of emoting. The only thing missing in his act was the big swing band. His deep chest tones and phrasing are his forte, and he is at his best on standards like a riveting "Don't Fence Me In" (Porter), "I Get Along Without You Very Well" (Carmichael), "Nature Boy" (Ahbez), and one of the best readings of "Where or When" (Rodgers-Hart) I've heard since Bing Crosby. Yet he was also able to show an affinity for contemporary songs, as on John Bucchino's beauty, "If I Ever Say I'm Over You," sung with heartfelt conviction. He had fun with his bouncy original tune, "When I Sing Low," which was fun and sounded like it was right out of the '40s crooner canon.
Luckily, Denny's grandiose arrangements lightened the set, and he and Murray had a good symmetry going. The highlight of the show was a sumptuous reading of "A Man Ain't Supposed to Cry" (Laine-Reid-Gimbel).

"When I Sing Low" review in Show Business Weekly!
Congratulations, Todd...again! In a recent edition of Show Business Weekly, David Hurst said this about you and the CD: "Released late last year, Todd Murray’s debut CD, When I Sing Low, has made quite an impression with fans and critics alike. It’s a lavishly produced disc with a 23-piece orchestra and beautiful arrangements by musical director Dennis McCarthy and Tom Rainer. Murray’s ace-in-the-hole is a sexy bass-baritone voice that’s as masculine as it is dreamy. Wisely, he and producer Ron Zate have mined the gold that is the ‘bass’ in bass-baritone by showcasing his lower register to beautiful effect, setting Murray’s CD apart in a stylish and fresh way." "The songs themselves run the gamut and reflect Murray’s interest in music of varying periods and styles. Confident with Berlin, Porter and Rodgers, he’s also included pieces by John Bucchino, Frank Wildhorn and Stephen Sondheim as well as Hoagy Carmichael and Jimmy McHugh. He’s equally comfortable with all of them and sings with a lazy style that’s intoxicating. Bucchino’s "If I Ever Say I’m Over You" is especially lovely, Carl Fischer & Bill Carey’s "Could ‘Ja" swings like an old friend and "It’s The Talk of the Town" by Livingston, Neiburg & Symes is given a whole new twist with a virile man singing it." __________________________________
"When I Sing Low" Selected Best of 2002 Vocal Album
In a recent edition of TalkinBroadway.com, "When I Sing Low" was selected as a "Best of 2002 Vocal Album."
After beginning his list with a wide range of extremely talent performers, Mr. Frank continued: "Once again, the remaining slot for this list was a toughy." "Although I was torn between including Christine Andreas' Here's to the Ladies, Susan Egan's So Far...or Brent Barrett's Alan Jay Lerner album, all three of which are beautifully realized solo albums focusing on musical theater, I ultimately had to go with Todd Murray's When I Sing Low. While the three aforementioned albums are all incredibly well done, they are also incredibly safe with nary a surprise or element to quicken the pulse."
"When I Sing Low, however, is an incredibly sensual album by a performer who was unknown to me" "With a rich, deep baritone that caresses each note like a lover and a sparkling way with a lyric, Murray interprets a variety of standards ("They Say It's Wonderful," "Where or When," "Just In Time," to name a few) with a swinging big band accompaniment. The true highlights of the album, however, are the more rarely recorded songs: John Bucchino's haunting "If I Ever Say I'm Over You," Fischer/Carey's playful "Could 'Ja," the very non-Wildhorn sounding "When Autumn Comes" (that sounds like it should be a Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer offering), and the swingin' title number written by Todd Murray." -- Jonathan Frank To see the entire review click here: Talkin' Broadway.com __________________________________ Todd To Perform at the Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Convention
